Robotics Teams from Hartford High Schools are on a Roll

We're celebrating two of our high school robotics teams' outstanding season of achievements. Team 181, the Birds of Prey, from Hartford Public High School with members from Classical Magnet School, and Pathways Academy of Technology and Design; along with Team 1991, The Dragons, from University High School of Science and Engineering had the opportunity to interview with FOX 61 news about their recent accomplishments in competition.

This year alone, Birds of Prey were part of the winning alliance at the New England FIRST Hartford District Event and won their first blue banner since 2017. This success also qualified them for the New England District Championships for the first time since 2019. Additionally, they received an invitation to participate in the CIAC’s CT State Championship. The team earned the 2024 & 2025 Sustainability Awards in the district competition. They also earned the 2024 Spirit Award at the University of Rhode Island district competition. After such a remarkable season the Birds of Prey team were even recently featured in the CBIA video, here.

In 2025, at the Waterbury District Event, the University High School Team 1991 Dragons were awarded the Imagery Award and were Event Winners. They were Runners-Up at the 2025 CIAC/CAS Robotics State Championship. Three students were named to the 2025 CHSCA All-State Robotics Team. In 2024, the Dragons won the CIAC/CAS Robotics State Championship and were finalists in the Hartford District Event. They have a long history of success, having won an average of more than one award per year since their rookie year in 2007.
